Kim Dorland

We’re longtime fans of Canadian artist Kim Dorland and with October 31st just around the corner, we’re reminded of his distinct, otherworldly style.

Kim Dorland - Carry On

His signature technique is impasto - super thick painting - with a color scheme often comprised of neutrals and neons. The content varies: landscapes, suburbia, his wife Lori - but it’s distinctly Canadian, in ways that Canadians would instantly recognize but might not be so obvious to others.

Kim Dorland - Rest

Then there’s the eerie-ness. A haunting quality permeates nearly everything he paints. Some of his work is just downright dark, but even the most mundane scenes have an otherness about them.
